The Part That Quits First…Isn’t Your Legs
A 90-minute virtual workshop for Crusher and Marji Gesick athletes who want to train their mind with the same intention they train their body.
Live on Zoom · Tuesday, March 10, 2026 · 6:30 PM EST ·
Limited to 30 athletes · Camera-on · Working Session
You’re Training Your Body.
But What About the Part That Decides to Stop?
You’re logging miles. Building fitness. Dialing in nutrition and gear.
It’s early in the season. You tell yourself there’s time. The real work will come later.
But while you’re training your body, your brain is already rehearsing race day.
Every hard session.
Every moment you negotiate.
Every time you decide to push — or pull back.
You’re wiring patterns right now.
And for many athletes, it starts to show.
The work is getting done, but something feels hollow. Your “why” sounded strong when you registered — now it feels thin on a tired Tuesday night.
You’re negotiating more than you used to. Cutting intervals short. Choosing the softer option. Not always — but enough to notice.
Your fitness is climbing. Your confidence isn’t keeping pace.
You’re not worried about your legs on race day.
You’re wondering about your head.
Because when it gets dark and everything in you wants to stop, the question won’t be “Are you fit enough?”
It will be: What decides that you keep going?
This isn’t a weakness.
It’s a preparation gap.
You’re training your body for the demands of the course.
You haven’t started training your identity for the demands of your own brain.
And every week that gap stays open, your nervous system is reinforcing patterns — either resilience or retreat.
Early season isn’t extra time.
It’s installation time.
This workshop closes that gap.

This Isn’t a Motivational Talk.
This Is a Working Session.
Most mental toughness advice sounds great on a podcast and disappears the moment you’re suffering.
This workshop is different.
It’s grounded in neuroscience and behavioral science — how your brain processes pain, meaning, motivation, and identity under stress.
And you won’t just listen.
You’ll work.
You’ll write.
You’ll think
You’ll build something specific and personal that carries into training and onto the course.
In 90 minutes, you will:
✦ Understand why your brain quits before your body — and what overrides that circuitry
✦ Uncover your real why — the version that holds in the middle of the “last fifteen”
✦ Identify your personal quitting patterns and what they’re protecting
✦ Create a one-line race-day anchor your nervous system can access under fatigue
✦ Build a plan to train your why alongside your body in the months ahead
You’ll leave with:
A deeply felt, identity-level why
A written race-day anchor
A practical mental training plan
Clarity on what separates athletes who endure these events from those who are changed by them
The Neuroscience Is Clear:
Meaning Changes the Experience of Pain
This isn’t philosophy. It’s measurable.
Pain + purpose = growth.
Pain − purpose = suffering.
Same watts. Same trail. Completely different experience.
Research shows:
→ Meaning lowers perceived exertion. Two athletes at the same output will experience different effort depending on how meaningful the work feels.
→ Identity-based motivation is stronger than outcome-based motivation. Your brain will let you quit on a goal. It resists quitting on who you believe you are.
→ Your prefrontal cortex — responsible for long-term thinking and self-regulation — needs fuel to override survival instincts. That fuel is purpose. Without it, your threat system takes over.
→ Self-trust is built through evidence, not affirmation. Your brain tracks follow-through. If you haven’t trained your why, it won’t trust it under pressure.
This workshop turns that science into something you can use — not just understand.
This Is For You If:
✦ You’re registered for the Crusher, Marji Gesick, or both — and you want to be prepared, not just fit
✦ You’ve done a hard event before and something broke mentally — and you don’t want to repeat it
✦ You’ve never done anything like this and you’re quietly scared — and you want to channel that into something useful
✦ You train alone and no one is helping you with the mental side
✦ You prepare thoroughly — and you know your mind deserves the same discipline as your legs
✦ You’re done with “stay positive” advice and want something grounded in science and real work
This is a working session. You’ll get out what you put in.

On the “No Recording” Decision:
The reason there’s no recording is simple: the power of this session comes from doing the work in real time, with other athletes, fully committed. A recording turns a working session into content. This isn’t content. This is preparation.

Who’s Leading This
Beth Egge
The Crusher EX 40 in 2021 was my first 906 event. I’ve been part of the 906 Trilogy every year since — in some form, every season — because this community got into my bones and stayed there.
These events have challenged me, changed me, and revealed parts of me I wouldn’t have met otherwise. I want that for every person brave enough to line up.
Here’s what I’ve seen over the years:
There are training plans for your legs.
Coaching plans for your power.
Nutrition plans for your fueling.
There is no plan for the part that quits first.
We all say it: You need a strong why.
But no one teaches you how to build it, test it, and train it so it actually holds when the course gets real.
I built this workshop to change that.
This is your Why Training Plan.
As a Certified Heroic Performance Coach, I specialize in the “now what” moments — when you’ve committed to something hard and need to become the person who can follow through.
“I just signed up for the Crusher and/or Marji” is exactly that kind of moment.
FAQ
Will I have to share personal things with the group? No. All writing exercises are private. There will be optional moments to share — but nothing is mandatory. You control your level of disclosure.
If I have a training plan why do I need this? This is the other half of preparation that most athletes skip. Think of it as training your nervous system the same way you train your aerobic system.
I’m doing the Crusher but not the Marji. Is this still relevant? Yes. The science applies to any event where suffering is guaranteed and quitting is available. All 906 Events qualifies.
What if I can’t make the date? There is no recording. If there’s demand, I may offer a second session. Join the wait list.
How much does it cost? $49. Or free with a code: Everywhere I posted this workshop included a code. If you don’t have one, just ask.
Why are you giving everyone a free code? I want you to realize there is value here (If you want to pay for it.. hey you do you). But I’m offering the codes because I believe this community deserves this kind of preparation. If it’s valuable, you’ll know — and we can talk about what deeper work looks like.
The Marji Doesn’t Create Grit.
It Reveals Whether You Trained It.
You’ve got a training plan for your body.
Now build one for your mind.
